Shocking footage shows criminals stealing cigarettes and tobacco from filling station - leaving owners with 'thousands of pounds' lost in stock.

Sandra Lomax, owner of Westways Filling Station, Tregaswith, Newquay, said she was left with a 'horrible feeling' after two 'young men' stole mostly cigarettes, tobacco and alcohol from their premises.

The owner and her partner Nick Lomax were called at 5am on Monday January 6 when they got an intrusion notification in their shop.

Officers of Devon and Cornwall Police were called out following the report and are investigating the incident.

Mrs Lomax stated: "It is an horrible feeling and upsetting - you work hard to create a good business and people come to ruin it. "

"We couldn't open until lunch time today [January 6] - it has a knock on effect in staff and customers and lots of people."

"I think it was all planned."

"It is the first time we have been robbed."

She added that with the burglary they lost 'thousands of pounds' worth of stock.

Police are investigating following two break-ins and an attempted break-in at commercial premises in the Newquay area.

Officers were called following a break-in at Spar in Quintrell Downs shortly after 3am on Sunday 5 January.

Two suspects forced entry and stole cigarettes before leaving the scene.

An attempted break-in was reported at Spar at Tower Road, Newquay, overnight between Saturday 4 January and Sunday 5 January.

Entry wasn't gained and nothing was stolen.

Two suspects forced entry to the premises and stole cigarettes, tobacco and alcohol before leaving the scene.

Officers are investigating whether or not the offences are linked. Enquiries are ongoing.
