Drone with dangling de-icing sticks used to whack ice off high-up power lines
This is the moment a drone equipped with a dangling de-icing stick was used to whack ice off high-up power lines.
Footage shows the unmanned aerial vehicle being skilfully piloted so that the rod hit the transmission cables and knocked the snow off them in Altay, Xinjiang, China, on December 11.
The impact force generated by the rapid movement causes the de-icing stick to strike the ice-covered wires, causing the frozen water to fall off and ensuring the safe operation of the electrical cables.
The drone reportedly worked on a 220 kV high-voltage line between Burqin County and Jimunai County.
Operations are carried out by the State Grid Altay Power Supply company.
