Doha, Qatar - January 07, 2025 The Gaza ceasefire negotiations are continuing in Doha, the capital of Qatar, with no timetable for reaching an agreement, a spokesman for Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Tuesday. Majed bin Mohammad Al Ansari, the spokesman, said that the relevant parties are currently discussing issues including a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the exchange of detained people, aiming to finalize the details of the agreement, and that some progress have been made in the negotiations. He noted that the meetings are taking place at a "technical level," involving relatively low-level officials and that senior officials from the stakeholders are not currently involved in the talks. Ansari stressed that given many difficulties in the negotiations, there is no timeframe for reaching an agreement. Under the mediation of Qatar, Egypt and the United States, Israel and Hamas have conducted several rounds of negotiations since the current round of conflict broke out on Oct 7, 2023, but failed to reach a permanent ceasefire agreement. Hamas confirmed in a statement on Friday that indirect negotiations with Israel had resumed in Doha, with the goal of achieving a complete ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
