Berlin, Germany - January 08, 2025 "A pro-Palestine protest at Potsdamer Platz on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, drew demonstrators with chants denouncing Israel and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as tensions over the ongoing Gaza war spilled into the streets of Germany's capital. Chants of "Israel Terrorist" and "Netanyahu Terrorist" echoed across the square, while some signs referred to Israel as a "Mass Murderer." The demonstration also attracted counter-protesters, who stood in solidarity with Israel. Waving Israeli and IDF flags, some also carried a Syrian flag in a show of regional support. The counter-protesters positioned themselves visibly across from the pro-Palestine group, creating a tense standoff. Among the demonstrators was a protester who separated from the leading pro-Palestine group. Identifying himself as "Scotty," he held controversial signs with messages in German reading "Bitte die Zios nicht fuettern" (Please Don't Feed the Zios) and "Noch ein weiterer Jude für ein freies Palaestina" (Yet Another Jew for a Free Palestine). His slogans sparked outrage from some onlookers while others engaged him in conversation. Police presence at the scene was heightened to prevent clashes between the groups.
