This is the shocking moment an unlucky black cat leapt onto a cafe counter, knocking over the till.

A woman was cleaning the coffee shop when the mischievous feline jumped onto the front desk and knocked over the cash register in Yasothon, Thailand, on July 1.

CCTV footage shows the furry creature landing on the items on the desk, causing them to fall to the ground and scatter across the floor.

The baffled worker, who was standing near the counter, attempted to catch the objects, but she couldn't make it in time as the cat jumped off and walked toward the door.

This prompted the frustrated employee to scold the cat. She then approached the animal, but it bolted out of sight.

The worker said: 'I was almost done cleaning up, but the cat just gave me another job to do.'

The belief that a black cat crossing your path brings bad luck originated in Europe around the 13th century. It was rooted in the idea that witches could transform into their black cat companions. People feared these cats might carry out tasks for their witch owners or, even worse, be the devil in disguise. This connection cemented the stereotype of black cats as symbols of misfortune and evil.
