Childhood sweethearts reunite: Couple who 'married' as kids tie the knot for real 21 years later
On January 7 in Chaozhou, Guangdong, a couple celebrated their wedding in a unique way by sharing a video of their kindergarten wedding play from 21 years ago. The video, showcasing a childhood performance of a wedding, marked the incredible journey from a pretend ceremony as children to their real union as adults.
In 2004, during a Children’s Day event, their kindergarten organised a cultural performance. The groom, Mr. Zheng, and the bride were assigned by their teacher to play the roles of a bride and groom. Dressed in a white wedding dress and suit, they performed on stage. Despite being in the same kindergarten, they were not in the same class, had little interaction, and didn’t know each other well at the time.
In 2022, someone shared the kindergarten wedding play video in a classmate group. Upon seeing it, Mr. Zheng’s mother suggested finding the girl in the video to see if fate would bring them together again. With help from the kindergarten teacher, Mr. Zheng managed to reconnect with the bride. At the time, both were single, and as they got to know each other, feelings blossomed, eventually leading to a real relationship.
At the wedding, the video of their childhood performance was played, allowing family and friends to witness this extraordinary bond that spanned 21 years.
