This is the terrifying moment a wild elephant caused a ruckus outside a school in India.

The majestic creature was spotted roaming around the college campus, causing panic among students and faculty members in Puri, Odisha, on January 8.

Footage shows the elephant standing in the middle of a pathway, surrounded by trees.

The encounter led the college management to postpone all classes for the day as the elephant remained in the area.

The local forest department was immediately called in to help guide the animal out of the premises.

Fortunately, no one was reportedly hurt during the incident.

The subcontinent is home to at least 30,000 wild elephants—more than any other country—and approximately 60 per cent of the world's entire Asian elephant population.
