Private jet overshoots runway and crashes killing pilot in Brazil
This is the dramatic moment a plane overshot a runway and crashed at an airport in Brazil.
The private Cessna 525 private jet was landing when it skidded off the tarmac and exploded in a fireball at the Ubatuba Airport in Sao Paulo on January 9.
CCTV footage shows the light aircraft scraping against the ground before bursting into flames as terrified pedestrians ran away. The charred fuselage was found at a nearby beach.
The pilot, Paulo Seghetto, died in the crash, officials from the Mineiros Airport where the plane took off said. Local media reported he had 28 years of pilot experience.
The passengers were identified by officials as businesswoman Mireylle Fries, her husband Bruno Almeida Souza, and their two children.
Karoline Magalhaes, captain of the local fire department, said: 'The passengers were removed alive from the plane and taken to the hospital. They were conscious and their condition has stabilised.'
Aviation company Rede Voa which manages Ubatabu Airport, blamed poor weather conditions for the crash.
The Aeronautical Accidents Investigation and Prevention Center said in a statement: 'The investigation will be completed as soon as possible, depending on the complexity of the occurrence and the need to find possible contributing factors.'
