China - January 10, 2025 China's largest tidal flat photovoltaic storage power station starts operation (Voice_over) Nearly two million solar panels in waters off the coast of eastern China are now operational at the country's largest tidal flat photovoltaic storage power station. The Huadian Laizhou Power Generation facility in Shandong Province's Laizhou City covers 1,200 hectares, generating and storing energy that will be used to power hundreds of thousands of households. (Sound_bite) Wang Gang, Deputy chief engineer, Huadian Laizhou Power Generation: "After the project is put into operation, it can generate 1.442 billion kWh of electricity per year, which can meet the annual electricity consumption demand of about 500,000 households. It can save 444,000 tons of standard coal per year." (Voice_over) Besides generating clean electricity, the station can also produce salt by collecting brine from the water in containers below the PV panels. [Restriction: No access Chinese mainland]
