A female tourist was found dead in her bikini at the base of a 250ft cliff in Bali, Indonesia.

Locals discovered the victim, 68, lying face down on the rocks beneath the steep slope of Pura Luhur Uluwatu, located in Badung Regency, on Thursday, January 9.

Dramatic footage shows joint Search and Rescue personnel preparing equipment for the complex operation.

The team conducted a field observation with a thermal drone to confirm the position of the body before lowering a rescuer to the scene.

Once the location was confirmed, an individual was carefully lowered to begin the operation.

The rescue effort was carried out quickly to avoid complications, as rising sea levels posed a risk of the body being swept away by waves.

After approximately 90 minutes, the foreign victim was retrieved around 1:25 pm.

Head of the Denpasar Search and Rescue Office, I Nyoman Sidakarya, said: 'The victim was only wearing a black bikini, there were open wounds on her body and a possible broken right leg.'

The body was transported to Prof. Ngoerah Denpasar General Hospital (RSUP) for further examination, with the Denpasar Police Water Police Unit overseeing the identification process.

Police said the investigation into the tourists death is ongoing.
