A fire ripped through an education department building in Indonesia in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Footage shows flames engulfing the government structure in Makassar, South Sulawesi, at around 3 am local time.

Dozens of firemen attended the scene of the inferno. Officers believe the blaze started in an accounting office on the second floor, destroying all the paperwork.

Iptu Sangkala, the head of criminal investigations at the Panakkukang district station, confirmed the incident and stated that his team were securing the site.

He said: 'Our plan from the Police is to install the police line, and an investigation process will be carried out," Sangkala said to the media crew at the location.'

The police chief said that forensic teams will be involved to uncover the exact cause of the fire.
