Reno, United States - January 10, 2025 The Nevada Air National Guard’s 152nd Airlift Wing has been activated to assist in battling the devastating wildfires sweeping across the greater Los Angeles area. On January 10, airmen from the 152nd Maintenance and Logistics Readiness Squadron loaded the Modular Airborne Firefighting System (MAFFS) into MAFFS 9 at the Nevada Air National Guard Base. The specialized tank will be used in aerial firefighting missions to suppress the raging flames. U.S. Northern Command has mobilized eight C-130 aircraft equipped with MAFFS along with support personnel to relocate to the Channel Islands in Southern California. Some aircraft will begin operations immediately, with all expected to be fully mission-ready by January 12. The 152nd Airlift Wing, known as the “High Rollers,” is scheduled to report for duty on January 11 as firefighting efforts intensify across the region.
