United States - January 08, 2025 A high-speed chase on the night of January 8 led to the successful capture of a wanted drug dealer, thanks to a coordinated effort by local law enforcement and the deployment of a Grappler unit by the Thurston County Sheriff's Office (TCSO). The pursuit began after Olympia Police Department's Flock LPR system flagged the suspect’s vehicle, a Prius, linked to a wanted drug dealer known to be armed with a handgun. Officers followed the suspect onto I-5 and requested backup from TCSO. With 20+ deputies, multiple K9s, and several Grappler-equipped vehicles on patrol, the suspect's chances of evading capture were slim. After fleeing from a traffic stop, the suspect exited onto Maytown Rd and Case Rd, but the Grappler was successfully deployed within minutes, immobilizing the vehicle and bringing the chase to an end after just 2 minutes and 25 seconds. No damage was sustained to the patrol vehicle during the operation. K9 Asher assisted in taking the suspect into custody. An empty holster, drug paraphernalia, and evidence of narcotics trafficking were found in the suspect's vehicle. The suspect, who had multiple warrants out for his arrest, including a felony escape warrant and violations of a domestic violence protection order, was booked into Thurston County Jail on charges of narcotics possession with intent to deliver and attempting to elude authorities. With law enforcement closing in on drug dealers, Thurston County is seeing fewer successful escapes — especially when getaway cars are a Prius.
