STORYLINE:
Work is proceeding smoothly to handle the aftermath of a 6.8-magnitude earthquake that hit southwest China's Xizang Autonomous Region earlier this week.
The strong earthquake struck Dingri County on Tuesday, leaving 126 people dead and hundreds injured.
In Tangren Village of Tsogo Township, Dingri County, volunteers from Lhasa provide free-of-charge food to people in the resettlement site.
SOUNDBITE1 (Chinese): SU WENCAI, Volunteer from Lhasa
"We all came here voluntarily and arrived as quickly as possible. As soon as we arrived, we prepared some hot food for the villagers, such as yak meat dumplings or Lanzhou beef noodles. This afternoon, it will be noodles. In the face of a natural disaster, all ethnic groups are united. The 56 ethnic groups of the Chinese nation are united together like the seeds of a pomegranate."
Social workers from the Xizang Starlight Social Work Service Center provide post-earthquake psychological support to children at the resettlement site.
SOUNDBITE2 (Chinese): TSETEN LHAMO, Social worker
"We provide psychological comfort for children and the elderly. We set up a tent to create a space for children."
SOUNDBITE3 (Chinese): DAINZIN COMO, Local resident
"I was scared (when the earthquake happened) but then some firefighters from Lhasa were here, and I was no longer afraid."
Within days, 224 relocation sites have been set up in affected areas, accommodating 47,500 people, while 12,730 tents have been erected and 12,043 heating facilities have been installed.
