Colorado Springs, United States - January 08, 2025 Wildlife officers came to the rescue of a distressed buck after a hammock became tangled in its antlers, obstructing its vision and preventing it from eating or drinking properly. Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) reported that Officer Aaron Berscheid located the struggling deer and, after determining intervention was necessary, tranquilized the animal to safely remove the entangled hammock. Berscheid then revived the buck and monitored it as it recovered from the sedative, warning that tranquilizers can leave wildlife vulnerable until the effects fully wear off. CPW emphasized the importance of removing outdoor hazards like holiday decorations, sports nets, hammocks, and swings when not in use, as they pose significant dangers to wildlife. In this case, multiple ropes and swings were left dangling in a yard, creating a serious risk for animals. Officials continue urging the public to take proactive steps to protect local wildlife, as incidents like this can often be prevented with simple precautions.
