Tourist from Hong Kong attacked by condo security guards in Pattaya
A tourist from Hong Kong was allegedly attacked by security guards over a room dispute in Thailand.
On Wing Chan, 38, reportedly went on a rampage after learning that his room reservation had been cancelled at a condo in lawless Pattaya City on December 30.
He was said to have screamed at the receptionist before the guards dragged him outside. More men believed to be friends of the security staff then arrived and allegedly beat him up.
Photos show the injured holidaymaker with a swollen eye and dried blood around his mouth as he went to the Pattaya City Police Station to file a complaint.
On's friend, named only as Miss A, 24, said he had booked a room through an agency. But upon checking in at the condo, they found that the reservation had been cancelled 'due to an issue with the room'.
Another tourist, Miss B, 27, said: 'On was yelling because he had paid 24,000 baht to book two rooms for two nights. The booking agency cancelled the reservation, and they were unreachable by phone. On was trying to contact them until he had an argument with the guards.'
She claimed On was dragged to a security booth where the group of around six guards allegedly ganged up on him.
Police Captain Chanan Kesornbua of the Pattaya City Police Station said: ‘We have recorded the incident and dispatched investigators to inspect the scene. More evidence and security camera footage is being collected to track the suspects down for legal action.'
The disturbing incident is the latest issue with tourists in the bustling coastal city, where round-the-clock sex workers cater to holidaymakers.
Government chiefs have attempted to clean up the city but regular violence and depravity continue to blight its reputation.
Last month, a British tourist, 71, was grilled by police after he admitted sleeping with the the corpse of a dead prostitute for three nights before the body was discovered.
