Footage shows a panda mother giving her playful daughter a fighting chance by wrestling upside down.

The video reveals panda cub Katyusha and her mum, Ding Ding, playfully biting each other, with Katyusha ultimately managing to topple her mother at Moscow Zoo, Russia, on January 5.

Her mum appears to have been giving her an opportunity by choosing to wrestle with her while dangling upside down from the frame.

Svetlana Akulova, the director of Moscow Zoo, said that in the first video, Katyusha was the 'winner' and took a 'victory lap' after defeating her mother.

Regarding the second clip, Akulova said: 'Mum, they hung a rope for us again! Should I climb on it?

'No, Katyusha, you shouldn't, you'll fall!

'I'll still try, I'll just sharpen my claws.

'And I say, don't interfere, I'll punish you!

'But I'll check anyway! Go, go, complain to Uncle Igor!'

Katyusha is the first panda cub born in Russia to dad Zhui and her mother Ding Ding. She is still technically owned by China, which retains ownership of all pandas loaned overseas, including those born abroad.

Katyusha is set to be returned to China in 2027 when she reaches adulthood.
