A bus plunged down a 300ft (91m) gorge, killing six and injuring 22 in India.

The vehicle, carrying 28 passengers was travelling from Pauri to Dahalchauri in Uttarakhand state when it spun off the road in the Srinagar region on January 12.

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) said that the bus lost control and fell into the steep valley, with five of those onboard pronounced dead at the scene.

Upon hearing the crash, nearby locals called for help and joined the rescue efforts to retrieve the victims from the heavily damaged vehicle.

Footage shows the severely impaired vehicle in an upside-down position.

Eight people were critically injured and have been transferred to a medical facility in Srinagar for further treatment.

Police said they are are currently investigating the cause of the incident.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami extended his prayers for the swift recovery of the injured individuals.
