Tourist trapped in landslide rescued in Bali, Indonesia
This is the dramatic moment a Romanian tourist trapped in a landslide was rescued in Indonesia.
Arbus Sebastian Romana, 27, was walking along the footpath on a cliff when the rocks behind him collapsed on Nusa Penida island in Bali on January 9.
The backpacker was hiking to see a spring but was left trapped on the steep cliffside. He screamed at the top of his lungs for help until he was noticed by locals riding a speedboat in the waters of Manta Point.
The passers-by called the Nusa Penida Seach and Rescue Unit as the waves were too choppy for Arbus to swim toward their boat.
Video shows rescue volunteers trying to hand a rope to the stranded tourist to hoist him up to safety.
The Nusa Penida Police Station said in a statement: 'The tourist heard the sound of something collapsing but ignored it. After he heard it for the second time, the cliff of the access road from the temple to the spring collapsed.
'The tourist was trapped and asked help from a speedboat that happened to be passing by. But because of the large waves the tourist did not dare to swim closer to the ship.'
Deputy Chief of Police AKP Nyoman Sudana said: 'Fortunately, the tourist was successfully evacuated in a safe and secure condition. He only suffered minor injuries to the left knee and right elbow.'
Arbus was given first aid and later taken back to his accommodation.
