Passengers jumped from windows to escape as fire engulfed a bus in India.

Footage shows the burning bus on Mahatma Gandhi Setu bridge over Ganga River that connects Patna and Hajipur as it was seen from another driver's car on the opposite lane in Bihar on January 11.

The driver and all of the commuters safely climbed down before the blaze spread. Some of them hopped out of the windows to safely escape.

Ganga Bridge Police Station officers and a fire brigade arrived at the area to douse the flames. The fire burned for two hours before it was put under control.

Both lanes of the bridge were closed causing severe traffic with dozens of drivers stranded.

It was cleared and opened later that day. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
