A bystander attempted to conduct a rescue after a car crashed into the water.

Footage shows a vehicle leaving the road and careering at high speed across a playground before flying off a riverbank and crashing into the river in Ust-Labinsk, a town in Krasnodar Krai, Russia on January 8.

In a second video, a man in his underpants is seen standing at the river's edge, with his clothes lying on the bank. He enters the water and approaches the submerged car, initially trying to open its door.

After a moment, he reconsiders and returns to shore.

It remains unclear whether he was the car owner trying to retrieve belongings or a passerby checking for occupants.
