Residents celebrated today as former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, who failed in a military coup, was finally arrested.

The arrest comes after intense political and public outcry over the impeached leader's strong-arm actions.

Dramatic footage by Doyeon Hahn shows hundreds of locals celebrating as news broke that authorities had detained Yoon on Wednesday, January 15.

On December 3, protests erupted outside the National Assembly in Seoul following the president's controversial declaration of martial law, which was later overturned.

Yoon, 64, impeached last month, is the first incumbent South Korean president to be arrested for his failed attempt to impose military rule.
