Emergency teams tackle Eaton Fire in California
Emergency teams tackled the Eaton Fire in California.
Dramatic footage shows heroic responders setting up a firebreak in the Angeles National Forest near Mt Wilson on January 9 as wildfires continue to ravage the region.
The Eaton Fire, which erupted on the night of January 7, has already been added to the state's list of the most destructive wildfires, alongside the Palisades Fire.
Cal Fire has confirmed that more than 5,000 structures have been destroyed in the Eaton Fire, while the Palisades Fire has burned over 5,300.
By January 14, the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office reported 25 deaths, including eight from the Palisades Fire and 17 from the Eaton Fire.
California's Democrat governor Gavin Newsom has called for an independent investigation into the loss of water pressure in some hydrants, which hampered firefighting efforts during the peak of the crisis.
However, President Trump pointed out that throughout 2024, he had made repeated warnings about the water issues in California, which he blamed Newsom for.
Speaking in September 2024, he warned that fires were being caused by state officials in California mismanaging irrigation and water supply, leading to dry conditions ripe for wildfires to spread.
He reiterated the criticism this week, slamming Governor Newsom for 'refusing to sign the water restoration declaration' in order to protect a 'worthless fish'.
