Plows grapple with lake-effect snow that blanketed New York roads.

Footage shows severe snowfall battering a highway on I-90 at exit 55 in Rochester on January 14.

Authorities said that plows are actively working to clear and treat the roads. They also advise drivers to slow down and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.

The New York State Thruway Authority has issued a warning for travelers, urging them to use caution if they must travel this afternoon.

The National Weather Service reported that parts of northwestern New York woke up to lake-effect snow showers.

'The lake-effect snow bands will persist, potentially creating treacherous road conditions by the evening commute. Travelers are advised to exercise caution as the snowfall intensifies,' the agency said.

Alerts were issued for Erie, Genesee, and Wyoming counties, warning residents of rapidly changing weather conditions throughout the day.
