South Korea - January 15, 2025 Storyline: South Korean police on Wednesday morning dispersed some of the supporters for the impeached President Yoon Suk-yeol, who tried to block investigators from entering the presidential residence. At around 04:20 local time on Wednesday, a vehicle of the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) arrived in front of the presidential residence in Seoul. The CIO investigators tried to enter the residence to execute the arrest warrant for Yoon again, but were blocked by a large number of Yoon's supporters gathered outside his residence. Lawmakers of the ruling conservative People Power Party and Yoon's defense counsels also confronted investigators in front of the presidential residence. Yoon will walk out of the residence and accept the arrest warrant at the Gwacheon Public Prosecutor's Office, according to reports. Yoon's lawyer said that Yoon is negotiating with the CIO and will take the initiative to attend the investigation. The vehicle of the CIO has left the presidential residence and moved to the CIO in Gwacheon. A Seoul court granted the extension of warrant to apprehend Yoon on Jan. 7 by issuing the second warrant against the impeached president. An impeachment motion against Yoon was passed by the National Assembly on Dec. 14 last year and delivered to the constitutional court for deliberation for up to 180 days, during which Yoon's presidential power is suspended. Yoon, who was named by investigative agencies as a suspected ringleader on an insurrection charge, declared a martial law on the night of Dec. 3, but it was revoked by the National Assembly hours later.
