STORYLINE:

At No. 96 Ziyin Road in Zunyi, a city nestled in the karst landscape of southwestern China, stands a building that elegantly blends Chinese and Western architectural styles.

Between Jan. 15 and 17, 1935, during the Long March, the Zunyi Meeting was held here.

The meeting is regarded as a crucial turning point of the Long March, leading to the ultimate success of the Chinese revolution.

It established the leadership of the new Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), as represented by Mao Zedong.

Ninety years later, the site of the Zunyi Meeting is teeming with tourists eager to learn about the history.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): ZHOU JUNNAN, Director of Zunyi Meeting Memorial Hall
"To commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Zunyi Meeting, we have made the memorial hall more engaging, building on its regular exhibits. This has drawn more visitors and tourists to explore the site and learn about its history, allowing us to tell our revolutionary stories in a more vivid way."

Zunyi has become a sacred place for generations of CPC members, and the footprints of the Red Army are forever imprinted on the city's culture and spirits.

SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): HE LI, Granddaughter of the Red Army soldier He Mulin, Staff at Sidu Chishui Memorial Hall, Zunyi City
"For me, it's not just about telling the story of my grandfather. I also hope to learn about more stories and share them with more people, so that their revolutionary spirit can be passed down."

Rooted in its revolutionary past, Zunyi City is embarking on a new chapter of development.

According to preliminary calculations, its GDP in the first three quarters of 2024 was 361.607 billion yuan (about 50.308 billion U.S. dollars), an increase of 5.7 percent over the same period last year.
