STANDUP (English): YANG YIRAN, Xinhua correspondent in Cairo
"Israel and Hamas have agreed to a ceasefire, bringing a pause to the 15-month conflict in Gaza. This agreement offers a crucial opportunity for peace in the region and opens a vital window for much-needed humanitarian aid.
This ceasefire is a welcome first step, but the path to rebuilding Gaza will be long and difficult. According to United Nations estimates, restoring Gaza's infrastructure and economy could take over a decade. The psychological scars, however, may endure far longer.
Regional powers, including Egypt, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, have welcomed the ceasefire, urging both sides to uphold the agreement and prioritize the immediate delivery of humanitarian assistance.
Despite this progress, the path to lasting peace remains fraught with uncertainty. The core issues of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict remain unresolved. Deep-seated divisions persist, and the risk of renewed conflict is real. A lasting peace will require sustained and concerted international efforts."
