An out-of-control truck overturned into the path of an oncoming car with a family inside - who said they were saved by their seatbelts.

The six-wheeler lorry sped along the curved road before it crashed into the opposite lane and flipped over in Lampang, Thailand, on January 10 morning.

Dashcam footage shows the vehicle skidding upside down across the median. It slammed through poles before hitting a car carrying a couple and their two-year-old daughter.

The mother, father, and toddler were safe, but the three workers from the truck were injured. The workers were taken to Lampang Hospital after being given first aid on the scene.

The mum driving the family's car said: 'We were travelling from Mae Mo to Mueang Lampang district.

'My daughter was in a car seat in the back with her father. I hit the brakes and tried to make a turn to avoid the lorry but it came at us fast and struck the front of our car.

'I'm so thankful that we were wearing seatbelts and my daughter was in car seat. If she had not been in a car seat, she could have been killed.'

Their car had two damaged tyres, but they were unhurt.

Construction materials, including metal, PVC pipes, and gypsum boards, were scattered across the ground, along with a fallen traffic light.

A police investigator said: 'We have inspected the scene to collect evidence for legal action. Some government properties were also damaged so we are also looking into possible violations related to that.'

Despite being one of the wealthiest countries in Asia, Thailand suffers from chronic underinvestment in its highways and education, contributing to its poor road safety levels. Only a handful of African countries are worse.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
