Man passes out mid-workout and whacks head on nearby bench
Shocking video shows the moment a man passed out mid-workout and wacked his head on a workbench.
Solomon Carter, 18, was attempting a 305lb deadlift last week (Jan 11) when he collapsed.
Solomon experienced something called a weight-lifter's blackout.
He held his breath while lifting, which temporarily reduced blood flow to the brain and caused him to briefly lose consciousness
As he fell, Solomon bashed his head against a workbench and was left unconscious on the floor of the empty gym.
Solomon woke up just a few seconds later and was left with a minor concussion.
Solomon, a student in Springfield, South Carolina, said: "It was very unexpected and pretty scary experience."
"Nothing like that has ever happened to me since I started training about six months ago."
"Especially the fact that I was alone in the gym made it scarier because no one was there to help me."
"When I woke back up, it felt like I had been out for more like five minutes than five seconds."
"I can see in the video that I'm holding my breath for the entire lift, so I think that's what did it."
Solomon went on to continue his workout but focused on lighter exercises.
Solomon said: "I did end up finishing the workout, but decided not to do anymore heavy lifting."
"I did some pull ups and curls instead then went home for some rest."
"I experienced some headaches and dizziness in the following days and believe I have a minor concussion, but I'm fine other than that."
