A defiant hit-and-run victim clung onto a car bonnet to stop him from escaping.

The pedestrian was allegedly struck by a passing vehicle who tried to flee before he climbed onto its front in Uttar Pradesh, India, on January 16.

Footage shows the lad with half of his upper body holding onto the bonnet of the white Hyundai Aura while his legs dangled on the front.

A Good Samaritan chased the vehicle that swerved between lanes as the driver tried to leave the scene.

The vehicle eventually stopped when it was blocked by other motorists with good Samaritans confronting him.

An officer from Majhola Police Station said: 'We have investigated the incident. There are no official complaints, but we are looking into it.'

The hit-and-run victim safely climbed down the car when it halted.

He was then seen arguing with the driver, who tried to speak on the phone, but the victim grabbed it off him.

Investigation into the incident is ongoing.
