Palm City, United States - January 10, 2025 A 25-year-old Coral Springs man is in custody following a reckless and dangerous attempt to escape law enforcement on Friday evening. Gaspar Burnside's attempt to flee from a traffic stop quickly escalated into a high-speed pursuit across Martin County, putting numerous drivers in harm's way. The chase began when Burnside refused to pull over for a traffic stop in Palm City, leading to a pursuit by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) Trooper. As the pursuit continued, the Martin County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) joined the chase, but due to heavy traffic and the risk to the public, officers disengaged. Despite this, Burnside continued to drive recklessly, speeding through intersections and swerving past traffic on the shoulder. MCSO’s Aviation Unit tracked Burnside from above, providing FHP with directions as the suspect drove through Stuart, Hobe Sound, and County Line Road. The pursuit reached its climax when Burnside veered down a dead-end road, abandoning his vehicle and fleeing on foot while discarding bags of illegal narcotics. After a tense foot chase, an FHP Trooper apprehended Burnside without further incident. He now faces multiple charges and is being held at Martin County Jail with a bond set at $745,000.
