Hero police officer saves unconscious newborn baby
This is the dramatic moment a heroic police officer saves an unconscious newborn baby.
Heart-stopping footage shows Officer Chris Rudy quickly assessing the unresponsive infant in Middle Township, New Jersey, on November 28.
Local media reported that a 911 call alerted authorities to the emergency.
When Patrolman Rudy arrived in the early evening, he found the baby's mother performing CPR. The infant's skin was blue and cold to the touch, indicating a lack of circulation and oxygen.
Rudy immediately took the baby and performed first aid. After one round of CPR, the newborn began to regain consciousness.
Rescue personnel from Atlantic Care arrived shortly after, taking over the infant's care before transporting the newborn to Cooper University Hospital in Cape May Court House for further evaluation.
CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) is a life-saving technique used when someone's heart stops or they stop breathing. It involves giving chest compressions to pump blood manually and, if trained, providing rescue breaths to restore oxygen to the lungs.
For infants, CPR involves gentle chest compressions with two fingers and rescue breaths covering both the mouth and nose.
