Gaza - January 15, 2025 Storyline: The ongoing Israeli bombardment had so far killed 46,788 Palestinians and injured 110,453 others in the Gaza Strip, according to a statement from Gaza-based health authorities on Thursday. The rise in casualties came after at least 81 people were killed and 188 others wounded in the enclave during the past 24 hours, the statement added. Although Israel and Hamas reportedly reached a ceasefire agreement on Wednesday, mediated by Qatar, Egypt, and the United States, Israel continued its assaults on Gaza on Thursday. The Israeli cabinet delayed a Thursday vote to ratify the ceasefire deal and scheduled another meeting for Friday to approve the agreement. The vote was postponed amid reported dispute with Hamas and internal disagreements with far-right members of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition who oppose ending the fighting. The Gaza Civil Defense Authority said on Thursday that since the ceasefire announcement, Israel has carried out bombings across several locations in the Gaza Strip, resulting in at least 73 deaths, including 20 children and 25 women, as well as over 230 injuries. On the same day, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Israeli Security Agency (ISA) released a joint statement revealing that from Wednesday night to the early hours of Thursday, the Israeli Air Force conducted an airstrike that killed Muhammad Hashem Zahdi Abu al-Rous, a member of Hamas' elite Nukhba forces. Hamas has yet to comment on the incident. Israel said that in the past 24 hours its air force had attacked approximately 50 military targets in Gaza, including Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad personnel, military compounds, weapon storage facilities, rocket launch sites, weapon manufacturing bases, and observation posts.
