China: Shares of Chinese developer Vanke plummet 7.8% after CEO reportedly detained

China - January 17, 2025 Shares of China’s second-largest property developer, Vanke, dropped 7.8 percent Friday amid uncertainty over the whereabouts of the company's CEO, Zhu Jiusheng. Jiusheng was reportedly detained Thursday night, and authorities were said to be considering intervening in the company, according to local media. Vanke's stock on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange fell 7.82 percent after 11:00 local time, despite the news not being officially confirmed by either the authorities or the company.
