Venezuela - January 12, 2025 Silence and little activity marked the streets of Venezuela this Saturday on the first day of Nicolás Maduro's questioned third term in office. Many areas of Caracas remained empty, with little commercial activity and increased police and military patrolling. Citizens noted that several businesses remained closed following Maduro's swearing-in on Friday, amid allegations of electoral fraud. Meanwhile, in Maracaibo, the Zulian capital, the streets remained deserted, with few stores open and a heavy security presence. Camera: RAYNER PEÑA R / HENRY CHIRINOS.
