Webb County, TX, USA - January 13, 2025 A high-speed pursuit on IH-35 in Webb County culminated in the arrest of 27-year-old Jose Carranza Jr. of San Antonio, after he led DPS Troopers on a dangerous chase that resulted in a crash and a brush evasion. Carranza, driving a GMC Sierra reported stolen out of Austin, collided with another vehicle during the pursuit but continued to flee. Troopers deployed a tire deflation device, forcing Carranza to stop, but he fled on foot into the brush. After a brief search, he was apprehended. In addition to evading arrest, Carranza faces charges including unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, reckless driving, failure to stop and render aid, and multiple counts of smuggling persons, as four Mexican nationals were found in the vehicle. They were referred to Border Patrol for processing.
