Thousands of displaced residents filled the Rose Bowl Stadium car park as wildfires continued to rage in California.

Drone footage shows rows of tents set up outside the historic football stadium in Pasadena, on January 13.

The venue once packed with football fans was transformed into a mass campsite for fire refugees, and a command centre for firefighters and emergency responders.

Tim Sell, deputy chief at city of Pasadena Fire Department, said: 'We've got departments from all over the western region are here to support us.

'We've got Arizona represented, we've got Mexico. They've got units from Utah, they've got units from Oregon that are all here - so when they come here to support us during an emergency, we have to find a place for them to stay, so we've erected a small city.'

Authorities said the fires have killed at least 27 people and ravaged more than 60 square miles as thousands of residents were still under evacuation orders.

Strong winds that were fanning the flames have weakened, but the National Weather Service said 'dangerous conditions' will return next week.
