In a recent interview with Xinhua, World Economic Forum (WEF) President Borge Brende said he is bullish on China's economy in medium and long term.
SOUNDBITE 1 (English): BORGE BRENDE, President of World Economic Forum
"I'm bullish on China's economy in medium and long term. China is now taking steps to stimulate the economy, increase domestic consumption. And if you look at knowledge and talent, that is at the core of the future, and China is still graduating 12 million students every year, that are incredibly important in the time of intelligence."
Brende believes that artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping the global economic growth pattern and bringing new growth momentum.
SOUNDBITE 2 (English): BORGE BRENDE, President of World Economic Forum
"So AI is already reshaping the global growth. We are already seeing that it is reshaping trade. We see the growth is in digital trade and services. If you apply AI in a good way, it can increase productivity with 10% in the coming decade. That means a lot of prosperity for those that are able to implement it in a strategic way. This gives a lot of opportunities, not at least for the emerging economies."
The WEF Annual Meeting 2025 is set to kick off on Jan. 20 in Davos, Switzerland, with the theme of "Collaboration for the Intelligent Age."
Brende said that the world is currently full of competition and many countries tend to look inward, but cooperation is still the only way to deal with common challenges.
SOUNDBITE 3 (English): BORGE BRENDE, President of World Economic Forum
"I think it is important that we work together and have a dialogue. I agree in this notion that we are all in the same boat. Global problems, you have to find global solutions. So I think it's very important that even in the world where there's more competition, we will need to work together, sit around the same table, and discuss, have a dialogue and find solutions."
