Dozens arrested at pro-Palestine demonstration after attempt to defy police ban on march to BBC
Over 70 pro-Palestine demonstrators were arrested by police officers after a group attempted to break free from a rally held in Whitehall (January 18).
One woman contained by police, was visibly angry and threatened to 'spit' on officers before being taken away.
Thousands gathered for the static rally, originally billed to be a march to Whitehall from the BBC, before the Metropolitan Police banned the protest from taking place along this route citing disruption to the Jewish community at a nearby synagogue.
Police vans and rows of officers blocked roads leading from Trafalgar Square to stop the crowd proceeding. After police moved in dozens were arrested.
A ceasefire is due to take effect from tomorrow morning, following 15 months of fighting between Israel and Hamas.
