Alicante, Spain - January 18, 2025 A 63-year-old woman was arrested at Alicante-Elche Airport after attempting to smuggle nearly 20,000 sexual enhancement pills, suspected of being illegally transported for contraband and public health violations. The discovery occurred when security inspected luggage from a flight originating in Madrid and transiting through other countries. X-ray images revealed unusually dense contents in a suitcase, which upon further inspection, was found to be packed with blue pills labeled "sildenafil citrate," a substance used to treat erectile dysfunction. The woman could not provide any documentation to justify the possession or transportation of the drugs. The pills were seized by the Guardia Civil and the Spanish Tax Agency for further investigation. Authorities will analyze the substances to determine if they are altered or counterfeit. The suspect was released with precautionary measures, pending further legal proceedings. The seized pills will undergo analysis by the Pharmaceutical Inspection Services in Alicante.
