A landslide swallowed a row of homes amid heavy rain in Indonesia.

Three houses were destroyed by erosion caused by strong rainfall that battered Kuningan Regency, West Java, on the afternoon of January 18.

Footage shows the roof of one of the propeties falling, with other homes collapsing as the ground caved in.

Indra Bayu, Chief Executive of the Kuningan Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency, said: 'Thank God there were no casualties in the incident because the residents had seen the signs and were able to save themselves before the incident.

'The location of this landslide is landfill, and underneath it is a spring. So when heavy rain occurs for a long duration, the condition of the land becomes unstable and eventually collapses. To anticipate further landslides, we have installed tarpaulins, while the homeowners are temporarily evacuated to a safer place,' he added.

Local media reported that authorities have evacuated residents and are currently working to clean up landslide debris.

They have also distributed basic necessities to landslide victims, such as sleeping mats, food, and clothing.

Indonesia and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia reached the peak of the monsoon season last month, which brings soaring temperatures followed by powerful afternoon rainstorms, leading to widespread flash floods.
