The officer was being assisted by BTP's Operational Support Unit and Network Rail's Emergency Intervention Unit.

The team have been on site since Wednesday 15 January.

A British Transport Police Spokesperson said: ‘Officers were called to the line near Langley Green railway station at around 12pm on Wednesday (15 January) following the report of human remains being uncovered during the work of ecologists in a cemetery adjacent to the location.

'Officers remain at the scene and enquiries are ongoing.’

A spokesperson for Network Rail added: ‘We are aware of the incident and are supporting the police investigation.

‘The railway remains open, but we’d urge passengers to check before they travel for the latest information.’
