A plane cabin filled with smoke when a passenger's power bank exploded.

The Eva Air flight BR711 was travelling from Shanghai, China, to Taipei, Taiwan, when white fumes emerged from a seat on January 20.

Footage shows the crew onboard the Boeing 777 trying to bring the situation under control before the flames from the device could spread. One of the air hostesses quickly took a fire extinguisher to douse the item and prevent the blaze.

They later discovered that the fire was caused by a flier's power bank overheating while being used during the flight.

Another passenger, Bai, said: 'It took 15 minutes before the smoke was resolved. Everyone stayed calm, including us. The cabin crew were very professional. They knew exactly what to do.'

Eva Air said in a statement: 'The flight attendant immediately used a fire extinguisher on the smoke and poured a large amount of water to isolate it per standard operating procedures. Everyone is safe.'

The aircaft landed safely at Shanghai Pudong International Airport.
