Motorcycle rider killed in front of shocked tourists on Bangkok's busy Sukhumvit Road
A motorcycle rider was killed in a road rage incident in front of shocked tourists in Thailand.
Delivery rider Rittisak Pacuptanon, 48, reportedly had a row with Seri Sethinamvong, 30, the son of a garment shop owner, over a traffic dispute in Bangkok, on January 21.
The pair were said to have argued briefly in the middle of the road before Rittisak drove away on his motorcycle. But a furious Seri allegedly smashed his Toyota Vios into the rider, sending him crashing into a nearby pole.
The collision killed Rittisak while Seri allegedly fled from the scene - leaving the rider to die in front of shocked tourists on the bustling Sukhumvit Road.
Police Lieutenant Charin Rattanasuwanchai, an investigator at the local police station, arrived at the scene with rescue volunteers after receiving a report.
He said: 'The deceased was found lying near a CCTV pole. His body was twisted and bent. His electric motorcycle was found damaged.
'Witnesses saw the suspect driving away in a Toyota Altis. He was caught in the Sukhumvit 4 Nana area and taken into custody at the police station. We are investigating the cause of the incident.'
An onlooker named Kittiphum Sriboonruang, 48, claimed Seri had hit Rittisak's bike while driving through an intersection, but did not stop to discuss damages.
The rider then blocked Seri's sedan with his two-wheeler, sparking a brief scuffle on the road.
The witness said: 'The rider demanded that the other driver leave the car to talk, but he refused. He then smacked the car thrice, prompting the sedan owner to punch him.
'The rider got on his bike to flee, and that's when he was rammed by the car.'
Rittisak's wife Saijai Tambun, 39, was at the crash site sobbing over her husband's death.
Heart-wrecnhcing footage shows the inconsolable housewife wailing with grief over her husband's body covered in white cloth.
Speaking through tears, she said: 'Just this morning, we were talking about how we would pay for our children's tuition and household expenses. I can't believe he's gone just like that.
'I don't know what to do now. I don't have an income, and Rittisak is the only one who earns for the family. To the person who killed him, why are you so cruel? Did you ever think that he had a family waiting for him at home? Was your row so serious that you had to kill him?'
Saijai added that she wanted to punish the suspect 'to the fullest extent of the law'.
Seri was remanded in custody at the Lumphini Police Station to face legal action.
Police said he was not found to have used alcohol or drugs.
He was charged with first-degree murder and reckless driving causing death.
Murder is punishable by 15 to 20 years of imprisonment, while reckless driving causing death has a penalty of up to 10 years in jail and a fine of up to 20,000 baht.
