Shocking footage of lions feeding on a rhino while it's still alive.

The video, filmed at Kruger National Park in South Africa, shows the male and female lion feeding on the wounded rhino which is still moving as they bite into it.

The filmer later wrote online: "We came across this kill scene while on safari in Kruger National Park, South Africa.

"The male lion did the killing work earlier, then the female continued to work on the kill."

"We were told that ten minutes prior, the [male] lion had jumped on the back of the rhino," he continued.

"Just as we were about to leave, the male lion rested and the lioness and their cub came into the picture.

"The lioness continued trying to kill the rhino, with the cub playing around in the background."

We came across this kill scene while on safari in Kruger National Park, South Africa. The male lion did the killing work earlier, then the female continued to work on the kill. The cub plays around a bit.

Additionally, we were on an early morning safari drive with Nik from Wildlife Safaris on Tuesday morning, 26 April around 6:30am. We were staying in Skukuza, He had heard from a staff member that there were a few lions around, and unfortunately I cannot remember exactly where we found them. When we arrived, the lion was busy trying to kill the rhino. We were told that 10 minutes prior, the lion had jumped on the back of the rhino. He continued for about 20 minutes, and just as we were about to leave, the male lion rested and the lioness and their cub came into the picture. The lioness continued trying to kill the rhino, with the cub playing around in the background. - (Video sent in by Eric Knopp)

1.there were also staff standing around discussing while this was happening......and heard the rhino was eventually put down, as roads were closed.

2.body was removed the next day, and still waiting for results.....this is a sub adult of 3 or so yrs....could have been hurt by another male rhino or a bullet....and was thus lying down.....

3.It's a bit gory, and the sounds coming from the rhino are a little upsetting. But nature, eh?
