US: China calls for joint efforts to combat terrorism in Africa
New York, United States - January 22, 2025 China is willing to work with the international community to help Africa address the challenges posed by terrorism, a Chinese envoy stated during a high-level open debate on combating terrorism in Africa at the United Nations Security Council on Tuesday. Chinese Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, noted that global terrorism has seen a resurgence in recent years, with escalating conflicts, political instability, and continuous economic decline registered in some African countries. Terrorist forces have taken advantage of these circumstances to create turmoil, said Fu. He said that China calls for adopting a zero-tolerance attitude toward terrorism, enhancing the independent counter-terrorism capabilities of African nations, and leveraging emerging technologies to support such efforts on the continent, so as to eradicate the root causes of terrorism in Africa. "No matter what narrative terrorist organizations use, whether their actions occur in Africa or anywhere else, they should be resolutely opposed and firmly fought against. Applying double standards on counter-terrorism, engaging in selective counter-terrorism, or even using terrorist forces as tools for geopolitical gain will ultimately backfire," said Fu.
