STORYLINE:

The municipal government of Vienna hosted a Chinese New Year reception at the City Hall on Tuesday evening.

The reception was attended by over 200 guests, including representatives from various sectors of both countries, as well as local Chinese communities.

Vienna Mayor Michael Ludwig extended New Year greetings to the Chinese community and expressed hopes for further strengthening economic and cultural ties with China.

"The relation between the city and the people of China (is) very good. We have a very good relationship (not only) in economics, but also the relationship between the peoples, from heart to heart, and I think it's the most important. We are very proud that (about) 20,000 people from China live in Vienna, (which is) very important for the economy of our city. And I'm very proud that there are many schools with the possibility to learn Mandarin in Vienna.
This (new) year, (which will) start on January 29, is the Year of the Snake. I think it's a very good symbol for the future because the snake is the symbol of wisdom.
