The Hughes Fire has erupted near Castaic in Los Angeles County, spreading at an alarming rate to over 10,200 acres as of Wednesday afternoon.

The wildfire, fueled by high winds, began around 10:45 a.m. near Castaic Lake, off Lake Hughes Road. Within the first hour, the blaze had scorched 500 acres, and by 12:30 p.m., it had expanded to 3,407 acres, according to Cal Fire.

By 1 p.m., flames continued to race through the dry terrain, forcing mandatory evacuation orders for tens of thousands of residents in the surrounding areas.

Fire crews are battling to contain the fire under challenging conditions, as gusty winds and dry vegetation worsen the situation. Authorities are urging residents to heed evacuation orders and stay updated on emergency alerts.

As this fast-moving wildfire devastates the region, officials warn the public to stay prepared and vigilant as containment efforts continue.
