A naked sword swallower impressed visitors by producing the blade from his throat at a bathing festival in India.

Footage shows the worshipper with white makeup powder on his face holding a small golden sword inside his jaws while tapping his tummy to release it in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, on January 23.

Upon pulling out the sword, amazed spectators cheered for him, with some clapping their hands.

In the Hindu religion, Sword swallowing is sometimes seen as an extreme act of self-control, discipline, and fearlessness. Followers believe they are qualities linked to overcoming personal limitations, ego, and attachment to the body.

At least 450 million devotees, many of whom have travelled from across the country and various parts of the world, are expected to participate in the festival and perform the sacred ritual 'Shahi Snan' from January 13 to February 26.

The Kumbh Mela is one of the most important religious festivals in Hinduism and the largest human gathering on Earth.

This event will showcase India's rich cultural heritage and spiritual traditions.

Extensive security arrangements have been made by the Uttar Pradesh Police to ensure the safety of attendees during the festival.
