A tourist has a case of Head and Shivers when ice formed on her hair while visiting an outdoor onsen.

The Thai holidaymaker went for a dip in the Japanese-style public baths as temperatures dropped to minus 27 degrees Celsius on January 9.

Footage shows her black hair frozen solid with tiny icicles growing from the stands of her hair that had been dipped in the water.

Her eyebrows and eyelashes also had a light layer of ice as she continued to play in the heated bath.

She said: 'The water was hot and steam was rising but the air was freezing cold.'

An onsen is a traditional Japanese hot spring bath, typically located in areas with natural geothermal activity. The water is heated naturally by volcanic activity and is rich in minerals.
